“When I arrived in Yonkers for this experiment, I was​ immediately flooded with memories. Yonkers was and is not​ unfamiliar to me. On my first visit, I drove along avenues in​ Northern Yonkers I’d traveled as a young child while riding​ in the backseat of my parent’s beat-up Volvo, walked by​ slabs of waxed concrete in the Ludlow area that I skated​ with friends during my obsessive skateboarding days, and​ passed a candy store I’d bought my cigarettes from during​ high school. I sensed I needed to return, so a few days later​ I made a follow-up trip…”

Matt Licari received his BFA in Photography from SUNY Purchase. He worked with the Richard Avedon Foundation and Guggenheim Museum to preserving and archive some of the most renowned work of the 19th and 20th centuries before launching his career as a portrait, fashion, and documentary photographer.
