HOME FREE: Ohio Artists Envision Prison Abolition, 2024
Published by Monolith Editions

Home Free: Ohio Artists Envision Prison Abolition explores the conditions, creative expression, and aesthetic practices of Ohio artists directly impacted by the criminal legal system and who are uniquely positioned to interrogate mass incarceration as a means to safety, justice, and rehabilitation. The exhibition is co-organized by the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Hamilton Ohio, the Returning Artists Guild (RAG), and the Marking Time initiative and is curated by RAG co-founder Aimee Wissman with Dr. Nicole R. Fleetwood, a native of Hamilton, Ohio, 2021 MacArthur Fellow, and art historian at NYU.

The exhibition features sixteen artists who are currently or formerly imprisoned in Ohio and is an ongoing conversation about abolishing mass incarceration through the lenses of local artists. It features dynamic public programs including performances, artist talks, and an archival workshop for directly impacted artists, their families, and support organizations. The Returning Artists Guild is a network of more than thirty currently and formerly incarcerated artists in Ohio and across the United States. Its mission centers the artistic practice, processes, and nurturing of RAG artists and develops platforms necessary to build public support for ending mass incarceration.
